THE NOTEDANCER GUIDE
Turn a MIDI file into animated sheet music.
NoteDancer is a free online MIDI visualizer. Give it a .mid or .midi file and it draws a moving musical staff, animates bouncing note guides, plays a sampled piano, and can export a synchronized MP4—all in your browser.
Choose a built-in demo or upload your MIDI, press play to follow the music, adjust the playback speed if you like, then select Export video to create a 720p MP4 in portrait (9:16) or landscape (16:9).
Try the free MIDI visualizerHow to visualize a MIDI file
- Open NoteDancer. Use the free visualizer. It works on compatible modern browsers and does not require an account.
- Choose music. Try Bach's Prelude in C Major, Beethoven's Für Elise or Mozart's Turkish March—or use Upload a MIDI to select a file from your device. The upload limit is 15 MB.
- Watch notes dance. Press Watch them dance or the player button. The musical staff scrolls as the notes sound. Two guide orbs follow the treble and bass lanes.
- Control the performance. Pause, seek and select 0.5×, 0.75×, 1×, 1.25×, 1.5× or 2×. The MIDI clock drives both the sampled piano and animation. Turkish March is initially set to 2×; other music starts at 1×.
- Export a video. Click Export video, choose 9:16 or 16:9, and select the export speed. NoteDancer creates a 720p, 30 FPS H.264/AAC MP4 with synchronized piano audio, entirely on your device. Save it using the download link.
What you get—and what you don't
NoteDancer uses the note pitches and original performance timings from your MIDI. It generates an approximate two-staff visual score, not a guaranteed reproduction of an engraver's original sheet music. In particular, complex polyphonic or multi-instrument files may not resemble a manually typeset piano score. It does not currently import MusicXML, export PDF sheet music, or render video on a cloud server.
Video export is free at 720p in both aspect ratios, with a short piano tail. Exports support MIDI music up to 10 minutes; selecting a slower speed can make the rendered duration exceed the limit. Native H.264 and AAC browser support is required, so export availability varies by device and browser. The app explains unsupported configurations instead of producing silent video.
Frequently asked questions
Is NoteDancer free?
Yes. MIDI visualization, piano playback and 720p MP4 export are currently free. There is no account, subscription or advertising requirement.
Does NoteDancer upload my MIDI to a server?
No. Your MIDI file is parsed locally in your browser; the notes and song title are not sent to NoteDancer or Google Analytics. The browser downloads piano sample sounds when needed, and optional consent-based site analytics measures broad interactions—not the contents of your music.
Does the MP4 include sound?
Yes. Supported browsers synthesize the piano audio locally and combine it with the rendered visual score. Audio and video follow the same chosen speed without changing piano pitch.
Will my output be the same as a professional sheet music PDF?
No. This is an animated visualization generated from MIDI note events, not a professional engraving tool. MIDI does not reliably preserve the original page layout, fingering or notation choices.
